How To Deal With Negative Emotions in a Healthy Way When They Rise Up

I’ve been really enjoying working through Shiva Wheeler's “When Your Voice is Authentic, You Don’t Have to Yell.” Every chapter and exercise is so incredibly short and simple, and yet every chapter has been very cathartic for me. Not sure if it’s a personal thing for me at this point in my journey or if the book is just on another level of awesomeness.

Yesterday’s lesson was on something that I find most people have a challenging time figuring out- how to deal with your emotions in a healthy way.

We all know you shouldn’t suppress emotions. If you do, they then get stuck in your energy body and chakras causing blocks and issues, eventually leading to physical disease. On top of that, when they get stuck in your system, they are then attracting more of the same stuff to you. So if you suppress anger, it gets stuck in your liver and then your energy field is holding anger and therefore attracting more anger to you. Same with distrust, heartache, fear, etc. Not good.

But at the same time many of us on a spiritual path, or even just a well-being path, try to avoid negative emotions like the plague. C’mon be honest, many are scared of negative emotions (hey "the only thing to fear is fear itself" didnt become a popular quote for no reason! People relate to it). We know negative energy attracts more of itself and before you know it you end up wallowing in negativity and things start going wrong and you feel worse and then more things go wrong and so on. When you’re feeling negative emotions you’re vibrating low and blocking your positive desires from manifesting, etc. Oh and since you know you’re “supposed” to feel peace, love, and trust, feeling anger or fear can make you feel like you’re messing up. We know feelings like anger, shame, and fear don’t help us any and we don’t want them! Anger steals your energy and can actually kill you, shame blocks your communication, fear restricts your freedom, and so on and so on. However, since everyone is a work in progress, negative emotions are normal. Just like your physical body has pain as an alert mechanism, your emotional body has negative emotions as its alert mechanism.

So people end up feeling confused in regards to how to deal with negative emotions when they rise. We want to avoid feeling them, but we’re not supposed to suppress them. And in the process of trying to avoid negative emotions many people end up suppressing them because they don’t know what else to do.

I loved Wheeler's guidance on the topic:
In modern psychology it is considered a healthy mark of progress to be in touch with your emotions. For both men and women the courage to feel emotions is but the beginning of the journey towards freedom. Feeling and acknowledging emotions while not solidifying them into one’s identity constitutes how to be an adult in handling their impact.

That’s a total gem right there. PERFECT guidance on the topic. So I’ll write it again on its own.

The key: Feeling and acknowledging emotions while not solidifying them into one’s identity constitutes how to be an adult in handling their impact.

Great, so how do you do that?

EXERCISE:

He has you observe your emotions in the 3rd person. And it’s actually pretty fun. Feels like giving a play-by-play of your life as its happening or being a narrator.

For the next 3 days, every time you start to feel an emotion or are feeling an emotion, DONT think or say “I'm angry” “I'm scared” “I’m feeling sad,” etc. Instead switch your words and thoughts to "This emotion is anger,” “This emotion is fear,” etc.

And then you just observe it go through you (its really just energy passing through you). Observe how it feels in your body and how it affects your body. Watch its’ effects on you like you’re watching a show. Stay detached.

Really energy should move right through u as long as you don’t identify with it & claim it as your own. It’s just energy passing through you, but when you identify with it by claiming you’re it (i.e. “I’m ___” ), then you’re making it part of you. And Wheeler says at that point you become invested in the emotion and then it doesn’t just pass through you easily. So just let it flow right through you watching it, knowing that it is NOT you. You’re not your emotions. Those are temporary things.

This strategy keeps you from suppressing because you actually identify and acknowledge the emotion rather than pretending it’s not there, but it doesn’t become you. From this detached perspective you’re better able to figure out what the emotion is alerting you to and how you should handle the situation/issue or what changes you need to make (as Rev. Michael says, “If vision doesn’t pull you, pain will push you.”).

My Personal Notes:

Funny that when I was a child, this was actually my strategy for physical pain. I figured out at an early age that if I observed physical pain and tried to figure out what the pain really felt like, its effect on me, and tried to describe it, the pain would decrease a lot. Detachment.

I started doing this exercise last night and am finding it useful and funny. As an example, of its application/effect- right when I started the exercise, I went into the restroom and a huge mosquito flew at me out of nowhere (the big flying spider looking ones). I immediately on reflex felt panic, screamed, jumped, and then stopped and said, “This emotion is fear.” (Identified it as a separate entity). Then noted how my shoulders had gone up, neck tightened, throat made a surprised sound, and a sensation was still traveling through my left lung. All the while the mosquito was still coming at me and I just stared at it and suddenly started laughing. I chose not to kill it or react. I just laughed at the fact that a tiny insect had made that wave of fear travel through my body and in a detached manner asked, “Why the fear?” And thought, “Because I don’t want it to touch me. But how many times has a mosquito touched you before? How many times has a mosquito bitten you in your sleep? Hundreds! And it was nothing. The world didn’t end. You didn’t even feel it. Yes, you think its gross for an insect to touch you, but its happened so many times- does it really warrant that fear? Looks like I've been holding an irrational fear of mosquitos I need to go ahead and release.” And I was just straight laughing at myself while sitting there with Mr. Mosquito. Please note that under normal circumstances I would’ve immediately left the bathroom and used a different one. And if I had been feeling particularly brave, I would’ve killed it (I think its gross to kill insects and try to avoid it). But last night I just chilled with it.

P.S. This exercise wasnt the cathartic part of this lesson for me, though I found it very practical and useful. There was another exercise where you wrote down your relationship to certain emotions and THAT was insight after insight for me- like 6 pages of it with major healing/shifts. Maybe I'll blog about it later.

CRYSTALS KEEP DEPRESSION AWAY - Medical Research on Crystals and Depression

Crystals can keep depression away. That’s no secret to those of us who use crystals every day, but it’s always nice to have medical studies support our experiences. And so I wanted to share.

A study by world-renown doctor, Dr. Norman Shealy (info below), shows that the use of crystals can have a huge impact on keeping depression away. Dr. Shealy conducted a wonderful study where he gave Quartz crystals to depression patients who had improved using his program. He gave the patients in the control group a piece of glass instead of a quartz crystal. The study was double-blind so the patients did not know they were receiving glass instead of a Quartz crystal and the nurses distributing the crystals also did not know they were handing out glass to patients. All patients were asked to wear their “crystals” around their neck for three months. Three months later, with no further treatment (not even anti-depressants), 70% of the patients who received the Quartz crystal remained out of depression. In stark contrast, only 26% of the patients who received glass remained out of depression.

This study shows what a wonderful tool crystals are for increasing emotional health. Crystals can bring emotional stability and increase happiness, while absorbing the negative energy and negative emotions in your system. This results in greater emotional balance and an increase in overall well-being.

The journal article on the study above is not free online, but here is a link to a page where the study is briefly documented:

Use the Power of Crystals to Amplify Your Power

Hello!

I just wanted to let you all know that my new crystal website is up and running!! The address is: www.powertreasuresonline.com

On the website you can read about different crystals and their benefits. You can also browse benefits to see what crystals fall under the benefit you are looking for. You can also read about the use of crystals throughout history and about how crystals work.

The point of the website was to make some of my energy healing services more accessible. So on the website you can purchase beautiful, crystal pendants that I energetically cleanse, consecrate, charge, and custom-program for you. Every pendant comes with a little note stating what it was programmed to do.

This idea came to me during meditation way back in May, so I'm excited to finally have it up and running! This is a service I usually provide as part of my life coaching package, so I'm excited to have the opportunity to offer it to more people and to also spread knowledge about crystals and how they can help you reach your goals and improve the quality of your life. Everyone who knows me, knows that I don't go ANYWHERE without a crystal pendant on. So you know how I feel about them.

Anyhow, I hope you will enjoy the website and spread the word. If you have anything you would like to see on this site in the future, please let me know. It's going to be an ongoing project and I hope to add more information to it in the months ahead.

Emotional Moment From My Journal and Cool Info on the Power of Crystals

This post is a blog from my journal and doesn't really follow the "DIY/Tips" style of my blog. I had originally posted it on a private page, but I've decided to go ahead and post it here because it does have some cool info on crystals and on my own process.

Journal Entry:

Hmm… I just had a weird emotional moment while doing research (and I promise I’m not a cryer. If you know me, you KNOW that. Which is what made this so strange)... It came with a feeling of, “Wow, everything is always connected.”

I’ve been doing a lot of research, trying to gather content for a website for my new business. It’s crystal-related (in case you didn’t know). LOL, the research has been burdensome because I REALLY love crystals and I tend to go on 4-hour-long UNNECESSARY research tangents. I really don’t need that much info for my website. It’s just that while I'm blessed to know how to use crystals effectively and about their properties, I’d never sat down to just research their role in history.

So I’ve been having fun throughout the week discovering how just about every civilization throughout history has used the power of crystals and how they’re present in just about every religion. And even though I DEFINITELY do not need to list or explore the 200+ times that crystals are mentioned in the Bible, for some reason I’m drawn to reading it all. *shrugs* I don’t need to document St. Hildegard’s two medical treatises covering crystals or Cleopatra, Alexander the Great, the Incas, the Sumerians, Olympic athletes, or any of that, but I’ve been going on 4-hour-long tangents for each of the above…

Anyhow the history research has been really fun (because I’m an esoteric studies nerd), but today I was researching the science stuff. BLAH!!! When the word “crystal” starts turning into “crystalline,” I start to get a little sleepy. Reading about Cleopatra using her amethyst ring to seduce Julius Caesar and Mark Antony amuses me so much more. :-)

During the research, of course I ran into Marcel Vogel’s name (he was a famous scientist who produced some of the most powerful crystal healing tools available).

I read a quote from Marcel Vogel that I wanted to work with, but since I like to quadruple check every bit of info I use, that led to reading all kinds of scientific experiments by Marcel. They were cool but a bit technical.

This is the passage that led me on that trail:

"According to crystal researcher Marcel Vogel, a senior scientist with IBM for 27 years: The crystal is a neutral object whose inner structure exhibits a state of perfection and balance. When it’s cut to the proper form and when the human mind enters into relationship with its structural perfection, the crystals emit a vibration which extends and amplifies the powers of the user’s mind. Like a laser, it radiates energy in a coherent, highly concentrated form, and this energy may be transmitted into objects or people at will.

Its higher purpose…is in the service of humanity for the removal of pain and suffering. With proper training, a healer can release negative thought forms which have taken shape as disease patterns in a patient’s physical body."

Anyhow, I was getting a little fidgety reading through my trail of science papers, when suddenly I just started feeling a weird, inexplicable connection to Marcel Vogel.

Then I ran into his eulogy. And randomly started crying while reading it. But not until I saw the last part because that’s when the “It’s all tied together” feeling overwhelmed me.

Here it is-

Eulogy for Marcel presented by Dr. Bernard McGinity at Marcel’s funeral on Valentine’s Day, 1991, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, in San Jose, California:

"Those of us who are scientists or physicians and who worked with Marcel Vogel were well aware of his scientific achievements: his extraordinary work with phosphors, bioluminescence, luminescent paints and the design of magnetic disc coatings in computers. He was one of the most prolific scientists in IBM history with over 100 patents in his name. Yet, until his recent honorary Ph.D., he possessed no official university degree. He made his mark because of the brilliance of his mind, his prolific ideas, and his seemingly limitless creativity.

But it is not his scientific work that I want to talk about. For it is for his work with Spirit, his great spiritual strength, his wonderful capacity to love that I will always remember Marcel.

I was one of a group of 16 physicians privileged to work with him over a number of years with body energies, especially the capacity to focus healing energies with crystals in the treatment of illness. All of us had an extensive background in acupuncture and appreciated the ability to manipulate body energies.

Under Marcel’s guidance, some of us began to learn the process of transmitting thought, especially loving thoughts, unconditionally, to our patients. It brought us an even greater capacity to appreciate the power of the mind to influence illness, the power both to heal and exacerbate disease. And, most important all, to appreciate the incredible presence of unconditional love and it’s capacity to trigger transformative shifts in a patient’s psyche.

Marcel served for me as a spiritual mentor. He was a truly devout, yet iconoclast Catholic with a passionate love for Christ, and whose devotion was part of his very breathing. Yet he embraced with a deep understanding the teaching the Eastern religions with an especial love and admiration for the Lord Buddha.

He possessed the ability to see beyond the confines and formal structure of church teaching to appreciate the underlying principles in all devout religions. Marcel would have been just as comfortable in a Tibetan monastery as he was in this Church. And just as comfortable and compatible in the presence of the Dalai Lama as he would in the presence of the Pope.

Marcel emphasized the power of meditation to heal and guide our lives. I would like to invite you to join with me now in a meditation prayer to, for and with Marcel.

Please sit comfortably in your chairs, take some deep breaths and in a true ecumenical spirit rest with your palms turned upward and the tips of your thumb and forefinger joined together.

First of all visualize Marcel.
See him clearly; that big teddy bear of a man with his great capacity to love.
Ask yourself, what lessons did he teach you?
How did he serve as an example to you?
In what way did he influence your life?
Now send Marcel your true appreciation of what he did for you and what he meant to you.

It is said that all great teachers pass on their energy, their knowledge, and their wisdom. Ask Marcel to pass on to you whatever energy, knowledge or wisdom you need from him.

Finally, let us all join together in sending him a wave of love. Thank him for being part of our lives. And send him on to his highest spiritual evolution with our blessings and with all our love.

I would like to close with a prayer of St. Francis of Assisi –
a prayer that embodies the essential purpose of Marcel Vogel’s life.

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy Peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, Faith;
Where there is despair, Hope;
Where there is darkness, Light;
Where there is sadness, Joy.
Lord, grant that I may not seek to be consoled
as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life."

That’s when I started crying. Because in Pranic Healing that prayer is part of the meditation we’re taught to meditate on every day. And it’s the meditation that my Spiritual Teacher asks us to use. It’s central to our teachings, so for some reason it made me emotional that they used that prayer to sum up the essential purpose of Marcel's life, AFTER I had started feeling a strange connection to him.

It's also the prayer that hangs over my desk on a beautiful tablet, which I bought at the Vatican, many years ago- before I had even heard of Pranic Healing (I'm starting to wonder if it's every healer's prayer..)......

So as I’m taking a “Wow” gasp and wondering “Wait, why do I have tears going down my cheeks? WTH??” I click on a “random” link to a crystal.

And see this:

"The Lifestream Vogel-cut® Prana Crystal was originally created as a special order for Master Choa Kok Sui, well known healer and Master of Pranic Healing.

As is our practice in the process of working with a new crystal form, I sent one of the Prana crystals to friend Melissa Applegate for her impressions. Melissa is a gifted intuitive and has done frequent consulting work for Marcel Vogel. This was Melissa’s first impression of the Vogel-cut® Prana crystal without any background information regarding its origins and the connection to Master Choa.

“The impression I had was of a master of some kind. I had the impression of an oriental Master of some kind, very much into the Buddhist tradition, very much working with healing modalities with this crystal.

"I got specifically that he had Marcel’s permission to put specific programming into the crystal and that whatever crystal you cut will have this generic program within it and that Marcel had agreed. It was like his consciousness or someone he is working with, who is also a Buddhist Master, that consciousness was so personal and so interactive. It was mind-boggling to me.”

Master Choa Kok Sui is my Spiritual Teacher. And I’m a Pranic Healer. The connection was revealed. Master Choa is someone who I share the type of connection with that you can’t put into words or explain. It’s a heart thing. Of course I released another, “Wow,” in amazement of how everything in my life always seems to be tied together. And how I always start to feel connections in my heart before I even know where they’re from…. Which is a relatively new gift for me….

That night I definitely followed the meditation directions in the eulogy and asked Marcel to pass on to me whatever energy, knowledge, or wisdom I needed from him. And ever since that night, I've been even more excited and feeling like Marcel is guiding me in this new business. Which is GREAT for confidence. :-D
